By definition, lust is a strong desire, thirst, and longing for something or someone. This can either look like a sexual desire for someone, a strong desire for power, or a desperate hunger for something. However, more often than less, lust is associated to sexual desires. 1. Lust does not come from God.
1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. (NKJV)
2. Lust is temporary.
1 John 2:17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. (NKJV)
3. Lust is vain.
James 4:2 You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. (NKJV)
4. Lust is a desire of the flesh.
Galatians 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. (NKJV)
5. Lust is a desire against the Spirit.
Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. (NKJV)

Warning Against Lust
1. Do not let lust reign in your body.
Romans 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. (NKJV)
2. Do not provide for your lust.
Romans 13:14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. (NKJV)
Galatians 5:24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. (NKJV)
3. Don’t play with fire, flee from lusts.
2 Timothy 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (NKJV)
1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. (NKJV)
Matthew 5:29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. (NKJV)
4. Deny worldly lusts through God’s grace.
Titus 2:11-12 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age. (NKJV)
Colossians 3:5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. (NKJV)
5. Seek sanctification from God to fight against lust.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God. (NKJV)
