What does the Bible say about sin? The apostle Paul once said, “For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.” Can you relate to how Paul felt regarding sin? Are we all by default sinners? What kind of sins are there? Is it even possible to overcome sin? Can God forgive sin? If you’ve ever asked felt like Paul did or have asked yourself any of these questions, today we’re going to dive into scripture to find out what the bible says about sin.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT SIN?
1. Everyone has sinned.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (NKJV)
2. We must recognize the sin that is in us.
1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (NKJV)
DIFFERENT TYPES OF SIN
3. The works of the flesh are:
Galatians 5: 19-21 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (NKJV)
4. Sin that comes from the heart:
Mark 7:20-23 And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.” (NKJV)
5. Sin that can’t enter the kingdom of God:
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. (NKJV)
6. Sin that must be put to death:
Colossians 3:5-6 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. (NKJV)

James 4:17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. (NKJV)

WHY DO WE SIN?

1 John 2:15-16 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. (NKJV)
15. Sin lies at the door.

John 8:36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. (NKJV)
CONFESSING SIN
21. If we confess our sins, God is faithful to forgive and cleanse us.
1 John 1:8-10 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. (NKJV)

But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. (NKJV)
