What Does The Bible Say About Pride?
Pride does not proceed from God.
1. 1 John 2:16
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. (NKJV)
2. Luke 4:11
For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (NKJV)
3. Isaiah 2:11
The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, The haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. (NKJV)
Pride is a sin.
4. Proverbs 21:4
A haughty look, a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked are sin. (NKJV)
Pride is deceiving.
5. Galatians 6:3
For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. (NKJV)
6. Obadiah 3:1
The pride of your heart has deceived you, You who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; You who say in your heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’ (NKJV)
7. Proverbs 25:27
It is not good to eat much honey; so to seek one’s own glory is not glory. (NKJV)
8. Proverbs 26:12
Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. (NKJV)
Pride has its consequences.

When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom. (NKJV)
10. Proverbs 29:13
A man’s pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honor.
11. Proverbs 16:18
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. (NKJV)
12. Proverbs 16:5
Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; Though they join forces, none will go unpunished. (NKJV)
13. Daniel 5:20
But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him. (NKJV)
14. Psalm 31:23
Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints! For the Lord preserves the faithful, and fully repays the proud person. (NKJV)
Pride distances us from God.
15. Psalm 138:6
Though the Lord is on high, Yet He regards the lowly; But the proud He knows from afar. (NKJV)

17. James 4:6
But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “ God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble
Pride should not control us.
18. Philippians 2:3
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. (NKJV)
19. Romans 12:16
Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. (NKJV)
How should we fight pride?
20. Romans 12:3
For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. (NKJV)
21. Proverbs 27:2
Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips. (NKJV)
22. Ecclesiastes 7:8
The end of a thing is better than its beginning; The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. (NKJV)
23. 1 Corinthians 10:31
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (NKJV)
What should we glory about?
24. Jeremiah 9:23-24
“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord. (NKJV)
25. 2 Corinthians 10:17-18
But “he who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”For not he who commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends. (NKJV)
