What Does The Bible Say About Lying?
God Does Not Lie
Unlike humans, God does not lie or change his mind.
Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? (NKJV)
God cannot lie, it’s not part of his nature.
Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began. (NKJV)
God does not lie or relent.
1 Samuel 15:29 And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor relent. For He is not a man, that He should relent.” (NKJV)
It is impossible for God to lie.
Hebrews 6:18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. (NKJV)

God delights in the truth, but abominates lies.

Proverbs 6:16-17 These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood. (NKJV)
Who Is A Liar?
The devil is not just a liar, but the father of lies.
John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. (NKJV)
Every man is a liar.
Romans 3:4 Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: “That You may be justified in Your words, And may overcome when You are judged.” (NKJV)
The one who hides hatred/their feelings and is not sincere is a liar.
Proverbs 10:18 Whoever hides hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool. (NKJV)
A liar hates the person he lies to.
Proverbs 26:28 A lying tongue hates those who are crushed by it,
And a flattering mouth works ruin. (NKJV)
The one who walks in darkness is a liar.
1 John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. (NKJV)
A false witness is a liar.
Proverbs 14:5 A faithful witness does not lie, But a false witness will utter lies. (NKJV)
Consequences Of Lying
Lies separate us from God.
Isaiah 59:2-3 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies,
Your tongue has muttered perversity. (NKJV)
Lies distance us from God’s presence.
Psalm 101:7 He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; He who tells lies shall not continue in my presence. (NKJV)
Liars will have no part in God’s kingdom.
Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (NKJV)
Liars will not go unpunished.
Proverbs 19:5 A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies will not escape. (NKJV)
Lying will break your spirit.
Proverbs 15:4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit. (NKJV)
A Call To Stop Lying
To be able to love life, you must refrain your tongue from lying.
1 Peter 3:10-11 For “He who would love life and see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it.” (NKJV)
It’s time to silence lies.
Psalms 31:8 Let the lying lips be put to silence, which speak insolent things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous. (NKJV)
Let your nature of lying die along with the old man.
Colossians 3:9-10 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.
Put away lying.

Stop lying to others and start speaking truth.
Ephesians 4:25 Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another. (NKJV)
The remnant of Israel must give up lies.
Zephaniah 3:13 The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness and speak no lies, nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth; For they shall feed their flocks and lie down, and no one shall make them afraid.” (NKJV)
God commands us to not lie to one another.

Psalm 19:163 I hate and abhor lying, But I love Your law. (NKJV)

The truth will always come to light.
