What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality? In The Old Testament:
1. God’s original design for humanity and relationships: male and female (two genders only).
Genesis 1:27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (NKJV)
2. God defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
Genesis 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (NKJV)
3. The law prohibits homosexual acts.
Leviticus 18:22 “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” (NKJV)
4. Same-sex relationships were considered sinful and carried severe penalties.
Leviticus 20:13 “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.” (NKJV)
What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality? In The New Testament:
5. Same-sex relations are described as part of humanity’s rebellion against God’s natural order.
Romans 1:26-27 “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.” (NKJV)
6. Homosexuality is included among other sins that separate people from God
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.” (NKJV)
7. Homosexuality contradicts God’s moral law.
1 Timothy 1:9-10 “Knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine.” (NKJV)
8. Jesus reaffirms God’s original design for marriage between a male and a female.
Matthew 19:4-6 “And He answered and said to them, ‘Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh”? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.’” (NKJV)
Grace and Redemption
While the Bible clearly defines God’s design for sexuality and considers same-sex behavior a sin, it also teaches that all sin—including sexual sin—can be forgiven through Jesus Christ.
Through Christ, everyone can be redeemed from sin, homosexuality is not excluded.
1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” (NKJV)
God extends His grace to everyone.
John 3:16 (NKJV) “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (NKJV)
