The reason why some people don’t consider spending time with God “fun” is because they limit their time with God to only their time in church. Of course church is essential (there is no replacement for it). But our relationship with God should not be put on pause the moment we step outside of church. There is no such thing as a pause button or vacation away from God. That’s why below I am sharing 5 creative and fun ways to spend time with God. My hope is that after reading this post you will want to hang out with God so much more.

5 Fun Ways To Spend Time With God
1. Chat with God while you drive 🚖
Whether you’re driving to work, running errands, driving to clear your mind, or driving home, there is nothing like chatting with God on the road.
Prayer is conversing with God. And a great way to do this is while you drive. Talk to God about your day, tell him what’s on your mind, intercede for others, thank Him for your blessings, etc!
Psalm 145:18 The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth. (NKJV)
I strongly believe that where there is a will, there is a way. If you can’t always find the right time to talk to God while you’re at home, use the moments you drive alone to catch up with Him.
2. Admire His works 🌈🦋
Step outside of your home and find beautiful spots in your city where you can enjoy nature. This can be the beach, a trail, a botanical garden, the lake, a park, etc! Anywhere you can find some nature.
Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.” (NKJV)
A great way to connect with God is by admiring what He has created and allowed you to presence.
This not only increases your appreciation/admiration for God’s work, but it also allows you to be grateful in a genuine and fun manner.
3. Go on dates with God ❤️
Just like any good relationship, your relationship with God has to be enjoyable in order to be stable.
Psalm 16:11 You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (NKJV)
So, spicing things up from time to time is essential.
Instead of only reading the Bible at home, take your Bible with you somewhere that makes you smile. Here are some great date ideas with Jesus:
- ☕️ Coffee & Jesus – read your Bible while you enjoy a delicious cup of coffee.
- 🏝 Beach & Jesus – read your Bible while enjoying the view of the beach and the sun on your skin.
- 🏊🏻♀️ Pool & Jesus – enjoy the pool, but take breaks in between to tan and read your Bible.
- 💐 Picnic with Jesus – find a quiet place to have a picnic: bring yummy food, your Bible, a journal, post-its, cute highlighters, and pens. And enjoy the food for your belly while enjoying the food for your soul.
4. Walk with God, like Enoch 🚶♀️🚶
God always walks with us, but do we walk with Him?
It’s time to go on long and relaxing walks with God and acknowledge His presence in every step.
Meditate on His word. Talk to Him. Listen to worship music. Simply, enjoy your time with God.
Genesis 5:24 And Enoch walked with God. (NKJV)
Scripture says that Enoch was able to please God because He walked with God. I know this goes far beyond the literal interpretation of walking. What I understand of Enoch walking with God, is Enoch living His entire life with God by His side.
Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. (NKJV)
A great way to start including God in everything you do is by walking with Him. There is something so soothing about walking while connecting your heart to God’s heart and staying synchronized.
5. Invite Him everywhere 💌
And lastly, without sounding repetitive, invite God to all your day to day activities. There are 24 hours during the day and I don’t see why God only has to be a part of 2, 1, or less. Keep your heart connected to God in everything that you do, no matter how simple or “mundane” it may seem to you or others.
Invite God to your commute to work.
Invite God to your grocery shopping.
Seriously, invite Him to your trips.
There is no life without God, so why try to live life without including Him in it?
Moses knew better than to live life without God. In fact, He begged God not to take Him anywhere that His presence wouldn’t go with Him.
Exodus 33:15-16 Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.” (NKJV)
