Regardless of your age or profession, finding time to spend with God will always be a challenge. As fulfilling and rewarding it is to spend time with God, our flesh will always rather do something else. That’s why in Matthew 26:41, Jesus told his disciples, “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (NKJV) So, waiting for the “right time” or waiting for your schedule to change to spend time with God is just a trick from the enemy to stop you from spending time with God in the present. Over time I have learnt that instead of waiting to have free time, it’s more productive to include God in your everyday life and make the most of every moment you spend with Him. Below I’m going to share some tips on how to spend time with God when you’re busy.

How Important Is It For You To Spend Time With God?
When it comes to excusing yourself for not spending time or enough time with God, what’s the number one excuse you’ve heard or have given yourself? For me, it’s definitely not having enough time. It seems like a justifiable excuse, right?
Well it’s not.
Because you will always make time for the things that are important to you.
Is eating the right amount of meals important to you? If it is, you probably make sure you have enough time everyday to do what you have to do to eat those meals.
Is working out important to you? If it is you probably make time to go to the gym a couple of times a week, regardless of how hectic your schedule is.
The same thing applies with your spiritual life.
So, the question here isn’t whether you have time for God or not, but how important is it for you to spend time with God on a daily basis?
24 hours are enough
If spending time with God is truly important to you, trust me when I tell you that you will find enough time to spend with him daily. Now we will get into the how later on in this post, but before we do it’s important to reflect on our priorities.
24 hours doesn’t seem like a lot of time during the day, but 24 hours are enough hours to do what you HAVE to do during the day. If you have time during the day to watch an episode of your favorite TV show, read a chapter of your book, go to the gym for a workout, have lunch at a restaurant, or take a good nap, then you have time for God.
What Does God Say About Time?
1.There is time for everything.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. (NKJV)
2. God works in the present.
2 Corinthians 6:2 For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. (NKJV)
3. Everything is beautiful in it’s given time.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end. (NKJV)
4. Don’t wait for tomorrow to spend time with God.
Proverbs 27:1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth. (NKJV)
5. One day is a thousand years and a thousand years is like one day to God.
2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. (NKJV)
How To Spend Time With God When You’re Busy
Here are some tips that have helped me spend time with God even when I am busy!
1. Make God A Part Of Your Activities
The number 1 tip that has helped me spend time with God is including Him in the things that I do. The biggest mistake you can make is wait to spend time with God when you’re in church or praying in your bedroom. When you do that, you limit God to only those places and activities. Including him in everything not only helps you stay connected to God at all times, but it also makes every activity more fulfilling.
Here are some ways to make God a part of daily activities:
- Listen to Christian music, podcasts, or sermons on your commute to work.
- If you’re driving alone, turn off all the noise and simply talk to God.
- Listen to upbeat christian music when you’re at the gym working out.
- Put on a Christian podcast when you’re doing household chores.
- Play christian music in the background whenever you can.
- Talk to God when you go for walks.
- Meditate on scripture when you’re working.
- Sing a worship song in the shower.
- Read a verse in the morning & meditate on it all day.
- Change your lock screen to a different verse every week.
- Listen to your bible with an audio bible while doing different tasks.

2. Prioritize One Habit At A Time
Although it is important to read the Bible, worship God, pray to God, and go to church, you have to be realistic with your goals. If you set yourself unrealistic goals, you will become overwhelmed and give up on everything. That’s why I find it easier to focus on one thing at a time and slowly add more habits as you go.
For example, right now I have been prioritizing reading scripture, attending church, and being active in service. So, these are my non-negotiable tasks regardless of what my schedule looks like. I have been making it a habit to read my Bible every morning before I start working, making sure to attend church weekly, and making time to participate in my church whether it’s sharing the gospel in church, online, or opening worship. Now, I don’t have a designated time for prayer yet because I have been trying to get into the habit of reading the Bible first. So, currently I pray at different times and on different opportunities I get during the day. But, my goal is to be able to set time aside to pray daily once I have all the other habits down.
Here are some important christian habits that will not only satisfy your soul, but will also help you spend time with God on a daily basis.
Important Christian Habits
- Read the Bible
- Pray to God
- Attend church
- Serve in your church
- Worship God
- Serve outside of your church
It’s up to you to choose what habits to work on first, but remember that each habit as as important as the other. The goal isn’t to focus on one and ignore the rest, but to focus on one habit, master it, and add more christian habits to your life.

3. Be Intentional With Your Time
I am a firm believer of quality over quantity. But I am also a believer of using your time wisely. Ephesians 5:16 says, “redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (NKJV)
You can devote more time during the day to God if you:
- Look for opportunities to include him in your daily tasks.
- Stop wasting time on unnecessary tasks.
- Use your time wisely.
For example, if you have 30 minutes to spare, spend it reading the Bible. Or if you watched an episode of your favorite show, instead of watching a second one, devote that time to God. And then, make the most of the time you give God.
Even if you only have 10 minutes to pray, make the most out of those 10 minutes. Pray to God with all of your heart – with sincerity, gratitude, joy, and genuineness.
God doesn’t expect you to devote your entire day to reading scripture, praying, serving, etc. But he does expect you to be intentional and sincere when you do spend your time with Him. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (NKJV)
