Anyone can identify themselves as a Christian, but not everyone can say that they have a relationship with God. There’s a huge difference between being religious and having a relationship with God. A religious person practices religious acts but is very distant from God, while a person who has a relationship with God is always connected to God. If you’ve been having a hard time staying connected to God, in this post I’m going to share the 10 best ways to stay connected to God daily. Use these tips to cultivate an intimate, profound, and long-lasting relationship with God, our Father.

WHAT DRAWS US AWAY FROM GOD?
Let’s quickly go back to the Garden of Eden: Genesis 3:8-10
8. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” 10. So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
GOD’S INTENTION & PURPOSE
When God placed Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, he didn’t just place them there to simply enjoy the beauty and fruits of the garden, but to have direct access to God’s presence. He placed them there with intention and purpose. Because God’s presence was in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were able to build, cultivate, and maintain a personal relationship with God. There were no barriers to connect with God.
THE WEIGHT OF SIN
However, when they sinned (Read Genesis 3), that relationship was destroyed.
Scripture says that they no longer wanted to be in the presence of God.
They were ashamed of their sin but instead of repenting, they hid from God. That’s what sin does – it produces shame and makes us drift us away from God on our own.
God didn’t accuse, condemn, or reject Adam and Eve for them to want to hide from him. But the weight and guilt of their sin caused them to leave His presence.
WHERE ARE YOU?
Which is why when God approached them, the first thing he asked was:
“WHERE ARE YOU?”
When we drift away from God, he calls us and asks us: where are you?
Regardless of the place, state, and condition, you’re currently in, God asks you today: Where are you? Are you near or far from my presence? Are you really connected to me? He doesn’t ask this to condemn you, but to bring you back to His presence.
God wants us to be connected to Him, even when we feel unworthy.
OTHER THINGS THAT DRAW US AWAY FROM GOD
Before we get into the core of this post, I want to quickly share some other things that can also drift us away from God and we need to look out for:
- Lusts
- Distractions
- Ambitions
- Tragedies
- Disappointments
- Bitterness
Whether it’s by tempting us to sin, convincing us to give in to lusts, distracting us with many earthly things (that may seem good in our eyes), putting ambition in our hearts, blaming God for tragedies that occur, disappointing us, or filling out heart with bitterness from, the devil will always try to find a way to distance us from God.
Which is why we have to keep our eyes open and fixed on Christ.
Yes, we will be bombarded with many things to distance us from God. However, God has equipped us with weapons to fight back against all the attacks of the enemy.
Below, I’m going to share 10 different ways to stay connected to God (even when you don’t want to)

10 BEST WAYS TO STAY CONNECTED TO GOD
1. INTENTIONAL PRAYER
The number 1 most important habit you should have as a Christian is prayer.
There is absolutely no way for you to stay connected to God and build a personal and strong relationship with God without prayer. How can you maintain a relationship with someone without even talking to them? The more you talk to someone, the more you know them. And the more you know them, the more comfortable you are with them.
Prayer is the best way to get to know God in a more intimate way.
So, if you have been having trouble staying connected to God daily, I would suggest blocking out some time everyday to simply pray to God. You can either begin your day with prayer, find some time in the morning to pray, pray to God in the evening, or end your day with prayer. There is no right or wrong time to pray to God! I personally prefer starting my day with prayer, but whatever time works for you is fine too as long as you’re able to remain consistent.
2. READ SCRIPTURE
Reading the Bible daily is so essential in maintaining a strong bond with God. When you pray, you speak to Him. But when you read the Bible, God speaks to you.
So, in order to keep that communication strong, you have to read the Bible.
You don’t have to read the Bible for hours, but you should get into the habit of making some time to read the Bible daily. You can either block some time during the day to sit and read the Bible or you can keep a Bible with you and read it every chance you get.
Something I have found super helpful is keeping my Bible with me in my office. Every-time that I have some free time (even if it’s just 5 minutes), I can easily reach for my Bible, read scripture, and keep myself connected with God during the day.

3. WORSHIP GOD
Another great and fun way to remain connected to God is through worship.
You can worship God with psalms, songs of praise, or regular Christian music.
I prefer listening to Christian music over secular music because by doing this I am able to keep my mind, heart, and emotions focused on God. This is a personal conviction of mine (I can definitely talk more about this on another post).
Plus, if you find the right Christian artists, bands, and songs, you won’t even miss listening to secular music. If you don’t know any, I will introduce you to some below!

4. INVOLVE GOD IN EVERYTHING
Although this one is pretty straightforward, I’m going to quickly explain what it looks like involving God in everything that you do.
Involving God in everything you do is simply making God present in every situation in your life – personal life, decisions, work, hobbies, goals, thoughts, and habits.
This doesn’t mean you’re going to be praying or reading the Bible all day.
Making God present in your life is being able to live your life without disconnecting yourself from God. You shouldn’t only remain connected to God when you’re in church, reading the Bible, praying, or doing godly things. Your connection with God should transcend religious activities. So, whether you’re working, shopping, working out, traveling, cooking, or relaxing, maintain yourself connected to God by keeping him present in your mind and heart.

5. CONSUME CHRISTIAN CONTENT
Our thoughts, habits, and attitudes are very much influenced by the things we consume in our daily lives. So, let me ask you: what are you currently consuming?
Are you consuming content that is helping you grow as a Christian? Or are you consuming content that is destroying your relationship with God?
Believe it or not, the content you consume can either affect your life negatively or positively. Which is why I suggest consuming as much Christian content as you can on a daily basis! If you don’t know where to begin, here are some ideas for you:
- Listen to Christian podcasts
- Watch Christian YouTubers
- Listen to Christian music
- Watch Christian Movies
- Follow Christian accounts on social media
- Read Christian books
- Watch Christian TikToks
6. SERVE GOD
One of the best ways to maintain a consistent connection with God is through service. Serving God is a great way to practice what you learn from scripture and to demonstrate God’s love to others. There are so many ways to serve God. Whether it’s by taking up a role in your church, providing any kind of service to someone in need, sharing God’s word on different platforms, or simply demonstrating God’s love to someone, you can use your God-given gifts to put God’s Word into action!
In my case, being very active in my church (preaching, opening worship, serving with young adults via zoom, etc) and sharing God’s Word on my platforms has really helped me stay connected to God. Serving God has not only helped me stay connected to God since I always have to be prepared to participate in church and post on socials, but it has also encouraged me to be an example to those around me. I am still far from perfect (I make tons of mistakes daily), but I am definitely more conscious and careful with the way I behave now than I was before. Although no one will be saved by their works, I do strive to bring honor to God’s name with my works.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father, which is in heaven. — Matthew 5:16
If you’ve never practiced service before, I recommend it. Try to get involved in your church, look out for the less fortunate, pray for those in tribulation, and offer to help.
7. SPEND TIME IN NATURE
One of my favorite places to spend time with God is in nature.
There is nothing like talking to God while going for a walk, reading the Bible during a lovely picnic, worshipping God in the outdoors, etc! There’s an infinite amount of fun things you can do in nature. But involving God in those things changes everything.
Go on nature dates with Jesus!
8. EXPRESS GRATITUDE
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
Practicing gratitude helps you appreciate what God has done for you and is currently doing for you. Although there is so much to thank God for every single day, it can be easy to lose track of all the blessings in your life when you don’t practice gratitude.
More Bible Verses on gratitude:
- Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God
- 1 Chronicles 16:8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!
- Psalm 95:2 Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!
You can express gratitude towards God through prayer, by creating a gratitude list, or by sharing what God has done in your life with others.
9. TALK TO GOD
Although I already mentioned the importance of building an intimate relationship with God through prayer earlier, I want to touch on talking to God once again.
As I said earlier, you can block some time during the day to pray to God.
However, you should not limit the time you talk to God to 1, 2, or 3 times. You can have a specific time for prayer, but you should be talking to God throughout the day.
You can talk to God in your mind while:
- Working
- Driving
- Taking transportation
- Walking
- Relaxing
- Showering
I like to randomly talk to God during the day and just express my feelings, worries, projects, and emotions to Him. This helps me get rid of worries and also stay connected to God. Staying in touch with God daily is super important.
10. DO GODLY ACTIVITIES
There are so many fun activities that you can do to stay connected to God!
Here are some of my favorite:
- Bible journaling
- Christian arts & crafts
- Create christian paintings (bible verses, biblical characters/stories)
- Christian bullet journaling
