Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” As hard as it is to admit, we have all sinned at one point or another. So, we can’t judge or feel superior than anyone else. However, we can learn from ours and others mistakes to not repeat them. 15 Women In The Bible Who Sinned
1. Eve: The first woman to disobey God.
In the Bible:
Genesis 3:6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate it. (NKJV)
Sin – Disobedience
Ephesians 5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. (NKJV)
Consequence – Eve and Adam were kicked out of The Garden of Eden, woman had to experience the pain of childbirth, and men had to work in order to survive from now on.
2. Michal: The bitter wife who never got her happy ending.
In the Bible:
2 Samuel 6:16 Now as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart. (NKJV)
Sin – Bitterness
Hebrews 12:15 Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled (NKJV)
Consequence – She became barren and never had any children of her own.
3. Jezebel: The queen who took pleasure in doing EVIL.
In the Bible:
1 Kings 21:25 But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the Lord, because Jezebel his wife stirred him up.(NKJV)
Sin – Practicing all kinds of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. (NKJV)
Consequence – She was eaten by dogs after she was pushed down from a window by a eunuch.
4. Delilah: The Philistine woman who seduced and tricked Samson into disobeying God.
In the Bible:
Judges 16:4-6 Afterward it happened that he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Entice him, and find out where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and every one of us will give you eleven hundred pieces of silver.” So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me where your great strength lies, and with what you may be bound to afflict you.” (NKJV)
Sin – Lust
Colossians 3:5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. (NKJV)
Consequence – She dies when the temple collapses.
5. Sapphira: The woman who lied and omitted the truth from the church.
In the Bible:
Acts 5:1-2 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. (NKJV)
Sin: Dishonesty
Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren. (NKJV)
Consequence – She died along with her husband.
6. Miriam: The woman who spoke against her own brother Moses.
In the Bible:
Numbers 12:1-2 Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married; for he had married an Ethiopian woman. So they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also?” And the Lord heard it. (NKJV)
Sin: Murmuring & Jealousy
James 5:9 Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!(NKJV)
Consequence: Miriam’s skin was leprous for 7 days.
7. Tamar: The woman who took matters into her own hands and slept with her Father in Law.
In the Bible:
Genesis 38: 13-16 And it was told Tamar, saying, “Look, your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his sheep.” So she took off her widow’s garments, covered herself with a veil and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place which was on the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given to him as a wife. When Judah saw her, he thought she was a harlot, because she had covered her face. Then he turned to her by the way, and said, “Please let me come in to you”; for he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law. So she said, “What will you give me, that you may come in to me?” (NKJV)
Sin: Dishonesty
Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds. (NKJV)
Consequence: Although she conceived twins from Judah, she never formed a family of her own.
8. Hagar: The slave woman that made fun of her master’s wife.
In the Bible:
Genesis 21:9-10 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, scoffing. (NKJV)
Sin: Mockery
Ephesians 5:4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.(NKJV)
Consequence: Hagar and her son were forced to leave Abrahams house forever.
9. Herodias: The adulterous woman who did not want to correct her ways.
In the Bible:
Matthew 14:3-5 For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife. Because John had said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” And although he wanted to put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet. (NKJV)
Sin: Rebellion
Proverbs 17:11 An evil man seeks only rebellion; Therefore a cruel messenger will be sent against him. (NKJV)
Consequence: She was banished in exile.
10. Lot’s wife: The vain woman who turned into a pillar of salt.
In the Bible:
Genesis 19:26 But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. (NKJV)
Sin: Vanity
Jonah 2:8 “Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them“Those who regard worthless idols forsake their own Mercy. (NKJV)
Consequence: She turned into a pillar of salt.
11. Rebekah: The woman who acted moved by impulsion and emotion.
In the Bible:
Genesis 27:6-8 So Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, “Indeed I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying, ‘Bring me game and make savory food for me, that I may eat it and bless you in the presence of the Lord before my death.’ Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to what I command you. (NKJV)
Sin: Showing partiality
James 2:9 But if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. (NKJV)
Consequence: Jacob had to escape from Esaú, who wanted to kill him for stealing his blessing. Rebekah lived apart from her “favorite son” for many years.
12. Bathsheba: The married woman who slept with the King.
In the Bible:
2 Samuel 11:3-5 So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house. And the woman conceived; so she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.”(NKJV)
Sin: Adultery
Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge. (NKJV)
Consequence: Bathsheba’s and David’s first son died.
13. Lots daughters: The women who slept with their own father.
In the Bible:
Genesis 19:31-32 Now the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man on the earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth. Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.” (NKJV)
Sin: Incest
Leviticus 18:6 None of you shall approach anyone who is near of kin to him, to uncover his nakedness: I am the Lord. (NKJV)
Consequence: Their descendants, the Moabites and Amonites were enemies of Israel.
14. Rachel: The woman who didn’t leave idolatry behind.
In the Bible:
Genesis 31:34 Now Rachel had taken the household idols, put them in the camel’s saddle, and sat on them. And Laban searched all about the tent but did not find them. (NKJV)
Sin: Idolatry
Leviticus 19:4 ‘Do not turn to idols, nor make for yourselves molded gods: I am the Lord your God. (NKJV)
Consequence: She died after giving birth to Benjamin.
15. Athaliah: The woman who killed for power.
In the Bible:
2 Kings 11:1 When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs. (NKJV)
Sin: Murder
Leviticus 24:17 “Whoever kills any man shall surely be put to death. (NKJV)
Sin: Ambition
1 Timothy 6:9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. (NKJV)
Consequence: She was killed by royal guards.
