As the end of the year approaches us, it’s time to reflect on our walk with Christ during the year. How was your relationship with God this year? Are you satisfied with how you behaved as a Christian? Were you able to stay connected with God all year long? Despite of your answers, I’m sure that there is always something you would like to let go of, fix, or improve. I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting myself and have found different areas I want to work on in the new year, new habits to adopt, and even things I need to let go of. And with that in mind, I’ve put together a list of 5 things christians should do to please God. After all, pleasing God should be our goal every single year.

THE PRIVILEGE OF PLEASING GOD
Earlier today I was reading Philippians 1 and was completely amazed and inspired by Paul and his fervent love for Christ. As I was reading this chapter, I came across a phrase that really stood out to me and spoke so deeply to my heart.
In Philippians 1:21, Paul said to the church of Philippi:
“For me to live is Christ”
What a powerful and beautiful statement this is.
After everything Paul experienced with God, as a Pharisee, an apostle, but most importantly, a child of God, he finally understood the true meaning of life.
His life no longer revolved around him, his accomplishments, his failures, his sufferings, or even his dreams. His life revolved around Christ.
Paul lived his life for Christ and through Christ.
And that is why he was able to please God.
IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE BOTH GOD AND MEN
When we live our lives for ourselves or for other people, it’s impossible to please God.
Galatians 1:10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. (NKJV)
Living for ourselves means looking out for our own interests, saying yes to everything our flesh desires, and putting our dreams over God’s will.
On the other hand, living for others means looking for approval, constantly trying to fit in to society, and caring more about being accepted by men rather than by God.
God wants us to break out from this kind of lifestyle and focus on pleasing him only.
5 THINGS CHRISTIANS SHOULD DO TO PLEASE GOD
If you want to start pleasing God more, below I’m sharing new godly habits that will help you break out from pleasing yourself and others so that you can start pleasing God. I’m going to be working on this habits too so you won’t be alone on this journey! Here are 5 things christians should do to please God.
1. Pray first thing in the morning.
1 Thessalonians 5:7 pray without ceasing. (NKJV)
Although you can pray at any time during the day, praying to God in the morning is a game changer. Personally, I like to pray randomly throughout the day. I don’t really limit myself to a time. Whenever I feel like talking to God or getting down on my knees to pray, I just stop whatever I’m doing and find a quiet place to pray.
But, blocking out time every single morning to pray is a must! There’s no better way to start off your mornings than by talking to God as soon as you open your eyes.
By praying to God in the morning, you’re able to put your entire day in God’s hands, talk to God about anything on your mind and start your day in victory.
And if you pray at other times during the day, still try to pray in the morning.
Psalm 55:17 Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice. (NKJV)
One can never pray enough.
2. Read the Bible daily, yes or yes.
Matthew 4:4 says, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” (NKJV)
You can’t call yourself a Christian unless you’re actively communicating with God and listening to his voice. If you don’t read the Bible ever, how will you understand God’s character, discover God’s plan for your life, or learn about his wonderful works?
Praying is a must. But reading the Bible is also a must!
Every christian should read the Bible daily in order to hear God’s voice daily.

3. Do everything for Jesus.
Colossians 3:23-24 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. (NKJV)
A big error is thinking that we only need to do godly things for Jesus.
We are children of God in church, outside of church, when we do godly things, and when we do everyday things. When you include God in everything that you do, you are able to do things with excellence because you do things for HIM.
This is something I really want to work on.
Doing things with Jesus in mind always and doing them as if I were doing them directly for him or to him.
Whether it’s working, doing a favor for someone, cleaning, or walking outside.
4. Behave according to the gospel.
Another verse that stood out to me as I was reading the first chapter of Philippians, is Philippians 1:27:
Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel. (NKJV)
It’s important to note that simply knowing about God is not enough. Anyone can know about God – even atheists know about God (they just choose to not believe!)
But actually KNOWING GOD means knowing his character and knowing yourself. Knowing that you are a vessel that needs to continuously be transformed.
Sometimes we settle in our Christian life – living a very cold, unstable, and inactive life. Being a child of God is a privilege, but it is also a responsibility.
And if we want to please God, it’s important to behave according to his gospel.
This means letting go of ungodly habits and trying to be more like Jesus.
5. Get involved and serve with love.
Romans 12:11 Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. (NLT)
As hard as it sounds, God didn’t call us to just sit back and relax. He called us to give to others what we have received from God.
A life in God is a life of service.
And serving God is the ultimate privilege in life.
Jesus taught us this over and over again through scripture.
Serving God has not only allowed me to use my gifts in God to spread God’s word, but it has helped me live out my purpose in God and stay connected with Him.
I’ve realized that it is easier to stay connected to God when you are serving Him.
Whether it’s serving in your church, spreading the gospel online or in person, or reaching out to people in need, get involved somehow!
