Why is it that there is so much to be grateful for, but somehow our eyes are always fixed on the very things we don’t have yet? Adam and Eve had absolutely everything they needed at the Garden of Eden, but somehow the serpent lured them into eating from the ONLY tree that was forbidden. Why? They were ungrateful. And so are we. We constantly crave the things out of our reach, we complain about the things we don’t have, and we forget to appreciate what we already have. That’s why I’ve created a 5 day gratitude challenge for Christians to help us practice gratitude.

5 Day Gratitude Challenge
For the next 5 days, we will be practicing gratitude in a very intentional way, with the hopes of forming a permanent habit. Let this gratitude challenge only be the beginning of a life of gratitude.
5 Day Gratitude Challenge For Christians
DAY 1 – Remembering answered prayers.
Today I want to focus on all the blessings we have now, but were once only “prayers”.
Make a list of everything in your life now that was once a prayer. And thank God for all of it.
For example, the job you have now. It may or may not be your dream job, but if you prayed to God for a job before, you’re living an answered prayer.
Sometimes it’s easy to just ask for more and forget that what you have now is an answered prayer.
Scripture to read today:
Deuteronomy 6:10-12 “So it shall be, when the Lord your God brings you into the land of which He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you large and beautiful cities which you did not build, houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, hewn-out wells which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant—when you have eaten and are full then beware, lest you forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. (NKJV)
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, today I bring to memory all of the prayers I once had. All of the things I prayed for cried about, and begged for once upon a time are now blessings that I now enjoy and even take for granted at times. Thank you for answering all of these prayers. Thank you for blessing me with more than I deserve. And please forgive me for forgetting that I am currently living answered prayers. In Jesus name, amen.
DAY 2 – Cherishing God’s gifts.
Today I want us to fix our eyes on the gifts we’ve received from God. Look around you and count all the gifts you have received personally from God.
Walk through your house.
Go through your things.
And now, thank God for every single of one of these gifts that you come across.
It can be a something as small as a piece of clothing you really like or as big as the car you drive.
Scripture to read today:
James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. (NKJV)
Prayer:
Dear God, as I look around my belongings, I can’t help but thank you for all of these wonderful gifts you have given me. You are a good Father who gives good things to His children. And I am so very grateful for all of these gifts in my life. Each gift is a reminder of your everlasting love for me. So, thank you for also showing your love for me through all of these gifts. In Jesus name, amen.
DAY 3 – Finding beauty in the ugly.
It’s easier to be grateful for the good things that have happened to us. But it’s more beautiful to be grateful for the bad things that have happened.
Today I want us to find beauty in all of the “ugly things” that have happened to us.
Why?
Because every single thing that God allows us to experience has a purpose and a lesson.
The same God that used the death of His Son, Jesus Christ, to save His creation, you and I, is the God that uses heartbreak and pain for bigger purposes.
Scripture to read today:
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I come before you to simply thank you for all of those experiences that may have been “ugly” in my eyes, but necessary in yours. I know now that the heartbreaks, the pain, and the disappointments I experienced were never meant to destroy me but to shape me into the person you created me to be. There is a purpose behind everything. And I thank you for it. I thank you for using the ugly experiences for beautiful purposes. In Jesus name, amen.
Day 4 – Valuing spiritual blessings.
Of course landing your dream job, buying the car of your dreams, marrying the love of your life, etc, are blessings that we should value. However, our hearts shouldn’t be focused only on earthly/materialistic gifts. Our hearts should be grateful for the most important kind of blessings: spiritual blessings.
So, today I want to focus on the spiritual blessings.
Blessings such as prayer, faith, scripture, different ministries, spiritual weapons, the name of Jesus, church/community, etc! What spiritual blessings are you grateful for? Make a list and praise God!
Scripture to read today:
Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. (NKJV)
Prayer:
Lord, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for blessing me with the most important blessings of them all, spiritual blessings. Thank you for trusting me with these spiritual blessings that make my life meaningful, safe, and blessed! Although my heart tends to lean to materialistic gifts, I pray that I become more appreciative of the spiritual blessings I have been blessed with.
Day 5 – Thanking God for everything.
For the final day of this gratitude challenge, I want us to simply thank God for everything.
For making us the way He made us, all of the people that have came, left, and remained in our lives, the little and big things He’s done for us, the answered and unanswered prayers, simply everything!
It’s impossible to look back into our lives and see a moment where God wasn’t present. Whether we were aware or not, God has been there through it all. The good, the bad, and everything in between.
So, let’s take a moment today to thank God for everything. And by everything, I really mean everything.
Scripture to read today:
1 Thessalonians 5:18 In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (NKJV)
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, as I conclude this gratitude challenge, I want to thank you for everything. For the things I understand and for those that I don’t. For the prayers you answered my way and for those you didn’t. And for absolutely everything you have done for me.
