That’s why we are able to hold God’s promises close to our heart and fully rest in them. Today we’re going to dive into scripture to discover what the Bible says about promises, making promises, and some of the most powerful promises from God to his people.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT PROMISES?
I want to start off by sharing 10 comforting Bible verses about God’s promises.
1. God is faithful to keep his promises.
Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. (NKJV)
2. God fulfills his promises in His time.
2 Peter 2:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. (NKJV)
3. God keeps his promises forever.
Deuteronomy 7:9 Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments. (NKJV)
4. We must also do our part to obtain God’s promises.
2 Corinthians 7:1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. (NKJV)
5. God has given us precious promises.
2 Peter 1:4 By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (NKJV)
6. God has given his children better promises.
Hebrews 8:6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises. (NKJV)
7. All promises in God are yes and amen.
2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. (NKJV)
8. God’s promises never fail.
Joshua 23:14 “And now I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things[a] that the Lord your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed. (ESV)
9. God doesn’t alter his promises.
Psalm 89: 34 I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went forth from my lips. (ESV)
10. God doesn’t lie about his promises.
Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? (NKJV)

3 KEY BIBLE VERSES ABOUT MAKING PROMISES
Are you someone who likes to make promises to others? Let’s take a look at what the Bible says about making promises. Should you be making promises?
1. Don’t make promises you can’t keep.
Ecclesiastes 5:5 Better not to vow than to vow and not pay. (NKJV)
2. Keep all promises you make to God.
Ecclesiastes 5:4 When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow. (NKJV)
3. Keeping your word is far better than making promises.
James 5:12 But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment. (NKJV)
5 PROMISES FROM GOD TO HIS PEOPLE
Although there are thousands of promises in the Bible and I will be creating a post entirely on God’s promises, I’m going to share 5 of my favorite promises from God.
1. God will always be by your side.
Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ (NKJV)
Deuteronomy 31:8 And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.” (NKJV)
2. You can find peace in God.
John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (NKJV)
Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You. (NKJV)
3. You can rest in God.
Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (NKJV)
4. God is able to transform your weakness into strength.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (NKJV)
5. God fights for you.
Exodus 14:14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” (NKJV)
