As someone who has dealt and depression first hand and second hand, I know how difficult it can be to carry on when all you want to do is just give up. God has armed us with His Word so that we can fight the devil’s lies with God’s truth. In this post, I am sharing 30 powerful bible verses to fight depression and live life with peace and hope.

DEPRESSION IN CHRISTIANS
Something that many people try to omit is that depression can exist within the Christian community. While God intended for his children to live life in his perfect liberty, there are situations in life that can pull us into depression.
Tragedies, loneliness, disappointments, heart breaks, grief, addictions, sin, and any open doors to dark spiritual forces can lead to depression. So while we’re living on this earth, we’ll always be exposed to these things. However, there is hope in Christ. In John 16:33, Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Now, is it a sin to be depressed? No.
Depression is an illness just like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and other illnesses.
Is it abnormal for a Christian to be depressed? No, it can happen to any of us.
HOWEVER, we can not let depression dominate us, overcome us, or worst stop us.
We don’t have to accept depression in our lives. That’s the difference between dealing with depression alone and dealing with depression with God. God gives you a way out.
FIGHTING DEPRESSION AS A CHRISTIAN
God doesn’t want us to live life oppressed or depressed.
He wants us to FIGHT against the spirit of depression. Because if you didn’t know, depression is a spirit. And this spirit doesn’t come from God, it comes from the devil.
So, if for whatever reason you allowed this spirit to enter your life, God wants you to fight against it now. Maybe you weren’t able to prevent it from entering your life then, but God is giving you the weapons to rebuke this spirit and live life in peace now.
You don’t have to accept depression.
John 8:31 says, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Maybe you have been a Christian for years, but you have never really developed a personal relationship with God. Oh yes, there are many people who identify themselves as Christians, but don’t actually live a godly life.
Well, freedom doesn’t come from identifying yourself to a certain religion.
Freedom comes from knowing Jesus.
TIPS TO FIGHT DEPRESSION AS A CHRISTIAN
1. Develop a personal relationship with God.
Don’t settle with just knowing about God through what you have learned about God from others. Strive to know God through what you experience with him yourself. Because it’s one thing to know about someone and another to know them personally.
And the closer you are to God, the easier it’ll be to live in His truth, liberty, and peace.
2. Pray to God continually and fervently
Prayer is always important, but when you are dealing with spiritual forces, you have to rely on prayer even more. When I was dealing with depression, the only thing that gave me peace was prayer. It didn’t matter how empty, sad, or lost I felt, every single time that I prayed to God, I always came away feeling hopeful and joyful.
Opening up to someone can be difficult and sometimes risky for many reasons, but you can never go wrong when opening up to God. God is the one person who will listen to what you have to say for as long as you need and provide you with comfort afterwards.
So, develop the habit of talking to God daily. And every time that you’re feeling anxious, sad, or empty, go to His presence. He will never forsake you or reject you.
You can never pray too much or bore God with your problems.
1 Peter 5:7 says, “casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
3. Simply worship God
Many people underestimate the power of worship, but worship is one of the most powerful weapons a Christian can possess. If you recall, King Saul was only able to find peace in the midst of worship. Every time David played his harp, Kind Saul had peace in his heart. Another scripture that comes to mind is the story of the battle of Jericho. Although the walls of Jericho were strong and indestructible, the Israelites were able to make the walls of Jericho fall down through worship. The walls came crumbling down when the Israelites starting shouting and worshiping God.

4. Fight the devil’s lies with God’s truth
The last tip I can give you is to read the Bible a lot. Don’t just read a verse and call it a day. Instead, make it a habit to read the Bible frequently and intentionally so that when the devil throws lies your way, you can easily destroy his lies with God’s truth. The more you read scripture, the more verses you will be able to use in your defense.
James 4:7 says, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
Submit yourself to God by delighting in His word and resist the devil by fighting his lies with scripture. God has promised victory to those who submit and resist properly.

i disagree in your statement that depression is a spirit that i chose to have . i have ot because of abuse in my younger years. is that my fault? i do agree on how to fight it. i dislike the term depression. i prefer oppression of spirit. i dont know your background. it sounds to me like you want to help and never battle it regularly.
Gabby Abigail says
I never said you chose to have depression. If you go back and read I said: “if for whatever reason you allowed this spirit to enter your life, God wants you to fight against it now. Maybe you weren’t able to prevent it from entering your life then, but God is giving you the weapons to rebuke this spirit and live life in peace now.” Depression doesn’t come from God, but God does allow hard situations to touch our lives only when there is a heavenly purpose behind it. It breaks my heart that you were a victim of abuse, but if you’re still here it is because God has a purpose with your life. Maybe you weren’t able to avoid the pain in your childhood, but with God it is possible to use that pain to grow closer to Him, depend on him completely, and most importantly overcome and help others who are also hurting overcome their pain.
And yes I did struggle with depression, hence why I thought it was important to create a post on depression. I struggled hard in 2018 but God helped me through it. And that is why I encourage anyone who is currently going through depression to NOT just accept it but to run to God and allow him to deliver you from it.
I apologize if you felt offended by anything I said, but I was just sharing my point of view on the matter as a Christian and someone who has dealt with depression and been delivered from depression. Plus I thought I would share scripture that has helped me as well.
Many blessings to you, Jolee.
