10 Things To Let Go Of As Christians
1. Any and all kind of bitterness.
Bitterness is a venom that not only affects you but it has the power to contaminate those around you.
Hebrews 12:15 Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled. (NKJV)
2. The need of approval from others.
The only approval that you need is the one that comes from God. Anything else is just noise!
Galatians 1:10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. (NKJV)
3. Laziness.
Laziness is a silent enemy that slowly consumes your goals, dreams, and purpose in life.
Proverbs 13:4 The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich. (NKJV)
4. The need to be “right”.
You can’t be human and right at the same time. You’re only right when your words are aligned with God’s words.
Deuteronomy 32:3-4 For I proclaim the name of the Lord: ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice,
A God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is He. (NKJV)
5. Foul and vulgar words.
The same fountain can’t produce both sweet and sour water! It’s one of the other. Foul words can’t come out of the same mouth that worships God.
1 Peter 3:10 “He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit. (NKJV)
6. Gossip.
Gossip not only consumes your time and energy, but it also opens the door to more sins.
Leviticus 19:16 You shall not go about as a talebearer among your people; nor shall you take a stand against the life of your neighbor: I am the Lord. (NKJV)
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. (NKJV)
7. Internal and external idols.
There is only one God that should be sitting on the throne of your heart. There is no space for any visible or invisible idols.
Exodus 20:3 You shall have no other gods before Me. (NKJV)
8. Judging others.
You are judged the same way you judge others. If you judge others heavily, you will be judged heavily.
Matthew 7:1-2 Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. (NKJV)
9. Feeling self-righteous.
Salvation is not obtained through works. God’s love or mercy is not gained by works. Everything is obtained through grace and by grace.
Luke 18:9 Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others. (NKJV)
Romans 3:10 As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one. (NKJV)
10. Self-pity.
Self-pity limits you, damages your heart, and destroys you little by little.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. (NKJV)
